Dearest Sister Amy,

Universal Life Church

Let me tell you a funny story about asking God what else can happen to me.  This a true story and I have the scar to prove it.  Last Summer I went fishing in shorts and t-shirt.  I parked my car off the side of the road on a creek (stream outside the South).  It is about 8 feet across and 2" to 20' deep (in the holes).  I parked about 10 yards above the creek on a bank off the road.  I was fishing at a small waterfall and hooked into a large fish.  I tripped over my tackle box sending the contents into the creek. Then I stepped on a rock and lost my balance and hit my right knee on another rock breaking the knee cap in half.  I remember asking, "Lord, what more can go wrong.".

I fell into the creek and the heavens opened up and poured on me.  My wallet floated away.  I was not going to lose this fish.  Again, I asked "Lord, what more can go wrong.".

I climbed out of the creek and half-way up the hill, I slipped and rolled back down the hill into a patch of poison ivy.  For the third time I asked "Lord, what more can go wrong.".

I climbed the hill once again, made it to my car only to discover that my car keys had somehow slipped out of my pocket into the creek. For the forth time I asked "Lord, what more can go wrong.".   I had no cell phone to call anyone so I slipped back down to the creek, got my keys, I slithered backed up the bank got into my car and drove away for about a mile and ran out of gas.  This time I figured out that God was tired of me asking what else could go wrong so I did not ask.  I passerby got me gas enough to drive to the local hospital.

I spent the next several weeks with my knee in a soft cast and itching like crazy!  I have learned not to ask the Lord what else can go wrong.

Okay, this is the point where you laugh.  It's okay, I laughed myself silly!  Murphy's Law, Right?  Have you ever tried to scratch that you cannot get to?

BTW, The trout was great!  James

Amy:
I love these messages. They're inspiring.....delightfully fulfilling and something to pass on. Wonderful idea to share this, to do this and to make this ministry a part of it.

JESUS & THE MUD PUDDLE

Howard  County Sheriff Jerry Marr got a disturbing call
One Saturday  afternoon a few months ago.
His 6-year-old grandson, Mikey, had been  hit by a car
While fishing in Greentown with his dad.

The father and son were near a bridge
By the Kokomo Reservoir when a
Woman lost control of her car,
Slid off the bridge and hit  Mikey
At a rate of about 50 mph.
Sheriff Marr had seen the results of accidents
Like this and feared the worst.
When he got to   Saint Joseph Hospital ,
He rushed through the emergency
Room to  find Mikey conscious and in fairly good spirits.

'Mikey, what  happened ?' Sheriff Marr asked.
Mikey replied, 'Well, Papaw, I was fishin' with Dad,
And some lady runned me over,I flew into a mud
Puddle, and broke my fishin' pole and I didn't get to catch
No  fish !'

As it turned out, the impact propelled Mikey about
500 feet, over a few trees and an embankment and in
To the middle of a mud puddle.
His only injuries were to his right femur  bone,
Which had broken in two places.
Mikey had surgery to place  pins in his leg.
Otherwise the boy is fine.
Since all the boy could talk about was
That his fishing pole was broken,
The Sheriff  went out to Wal-Mart and bought
Him a new one while he was in surgery
So he could have it when he  came out.
The next day the Sheriff sat with Mikey
To keep him company in the hospital.
Mikey was enjoying his new fishing pole
And talked about  when he could go fishing again
As he cast into the trash can.
When  they were alone Mikey, just as matter-of-fact, said,
'Papaw, did you  know Jesus is real?'

'Well,' the Sheriff replied, a little startled..
'Yes, Jesus is  real to all who believe in him
And love him in their hearts.'

'No,' said Mikey. 'I mean Jesus is REALLY  REAL.'

'What do you mean ?' asked the Sheriff.

'I know he's real 'cause I saw him,' said Mikey,
Still casting into the trash can.

'You did ?' said the Sheriff.

'Yep,' said Mikey. 'When  that lady runned me over
And broke my fishing pole, Jesus caught me in his arms
And laid me down in the mud puddle.'
GIVES  YOU GLORY BUMPS, DOESN'T IT ? !
GOD  WILL DO THE REST

I asked the Lord to bless you
As I prayed for you today
To guide you and  protect you
As you go along your way
His love is always with  you
His promises are true
And when we give Him all our cares
You know He will see us through

So when the road you're  traveling on
Seems difficult at best
Just remember I'm here praying
And God will do the rest.

Universal Life Church

"The Old Deacon"

Now this is the: Living Bible:

His name is Ted. He has wild hair, wears a T-shirt with holes in it,
jeans, and no shoes. This was literally his wardrobe for his entire
four years of college.

He is brilliant. Kind of profound and very, very bright. He became a
Christian while attending college.

Across the street from the campus is a well-dressed, very conservative
church.. They want to develop a ministry to the students but are not
sure how to go about it..

One day Ted decides to go there. He walks in with no shoes, jeans, his
T-shirt, and wild hair. The service has already started and so Ted
starts down the aisle looking for a seat.

The church is completely packed and he can't find a seat. By now,
people are really looking a bit uncomfortable, but no one says
anything.

Ted gets closer and closer and closer to the pulpit, and when he
realizes there are no seats, he just squats down, right on the carpet.

By now the people are really uptight, and the tension in the air is
thick.

About this time, the minister realizes that from way at the back of the
church, a deacon is slowly making his way toward Ted.

Now the deacon is in his eighties, has silver-gray hair, and a
three-piece suit. A godly man, very elegant, very dignified, very
courtly. He walks with a cane and, as he starts walking toward this
boy, everyone is saying to themselves that you can't blame him for what he's going to do.

How can you expect a man of his age and of his background to understand some college kid on the floor?

It takes a long time for the man to reach the boy.

The church is utterly silent except for the clicking of the man's cane. All eyes are focused on him. You can't even hear anyone breathing. The minister can't even    preach the sermon until the deacon does what he has to do.

And now they see this elderly man drop his cane on the floor. With
great difficulty, he lowers himself and sits down next to Ted and
worships with him so he won't be alone.

Everyone chokes up with emotion...

When the minister gains control, he says,

'What I'm about to preach, you will never remember. What you have just seen, you will never forget.'

'Be careful how you live. You may be the only Bible; some people will
ever read!'

I asked the Lord to bless you
As I prayed for you today.
To guide you and protect you
As you go along your way....
His love is always with you,
His promises are true,
And when we give Him all our cares,
You know He will see us through.

Universal Life Church

This was written by an 8-year-old named Danny Dutton, who lives in Chula Vista, CA. He wrote it for his third grade homework assignment, to 'explain God.' I wonder if any of us could have done as well?  And he had such an assignment, in California, and someone published it, I guess miracles do happen!

EXPLANATION OF GOD:
'One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn't make grownups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make.  That way he doesn't have to take up his valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.'

'God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times beside bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this. Because he hears everything, there must be a terrible lot of noise in his ears, unless he has thought of a way to turn it off.'

'God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting his time by going over your mom and dad's head asking for something they said you couldn't have.'

'Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think there are any in Chula Vista.   At least there aren't any who come to our church.'  'Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work, like walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people who didn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of him preaching to them and they crucified him But he was good and kind, like his father, and he told his father that they didn't know what
they were doing and to forgive them and God said O.K.'

'His dad (God) appreciated everything that he had done and all his hard work on earth so he told him he didn't have to go out on the road anymore. He could stay in heaven So he did. And now he helps his dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones he can take care of himself without having to bother God. Like a secretary, only more important.'

'You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time.'  'You should always go to church on Sabbath because it makes God happy and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God!

Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong.  And besides the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon anyway.'  'If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He's around you when you're scared, in the dark or when you can't swim and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids.'
'But you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you.  I figure God put me here and he can take me back anytime he pleases.

And that's why I believe in God.'
